Happy New Year from everyone at The Child Care Consulting Group! As
our gift to you, we are offering a new monthly newsletter absolutely
free. Our resolution for the New Year? To bring you even more fun,
useful, hands-on ideas that you can really use to motivate staff,
retain customers and increase enrollment!
Speaking of
resolutions, here's a great way to get staff input on your center's
goals for the New Year. Find a suitable spot to hang a large white
board. In your monthly staff newsletter ask your staff to use the board
to contribute their ideas for new year's resolutions for the center.
Start them off with the obvious: "even greater customer service," and
"ways to increase enrollment."
After a week or so, convert
their ideas for the center resolutions into twelve separate goals.
Voila! Now you have a monthly team goal for each month for the New
Year! Using your white board again, write the first goal across the top
and ask for ideas to translate the goal into action. Ask questions such
as: "What will this look like?" "What is step one?" "What is the best
way to make this happen from your classroom or realm of responsibility?
As
you see progress, write a note of appreciation on the board identifying
the staff member or classroom that put the words into action. By the
end of the month, you've made a praise board! Example: January Goal:
Increase Enrollment Ms. Shirley suggests mailing out "We miss you"
postcards to families who have dropped during the past 6 months. Ms.
Bridget takes it a step further and has her four year old class
decorate blank postcards. Ms. Patsy offers to write them during
naptime.
A great idea for your own personal resolution?
"No more stickies!" Does the very idea of not using sticky notes make you panic? Take a breath and read on...
Get yourself into the habit of writing all notes, to-do lists,
appointments, reminders and messages to yourself in only one spot -
your daily planner. Electronic or paper, it doesn't matter which you
choose. Just pick one and stay with it!
Carry
it with you always and use it for both work and home. Divide each day
into two sections - one for work and one for home or personal. In the
back label sections "PHONE #'s," "BUY," "PROJECTS," "DELEGATED,"
"ONLINE," and "MOTIVATION."
If you need to
speak with Ms. Kathy about the children watching too much television in
her classroom, make a note in your planner to speak with her on a
particular day. You could even have her initial the entry after you
speak with her. (Less paperwork and a great way to add more impact to a
verbal counseling.) Now, write reminders to yourself three and seven
days out to follow up. TV off? Praise her! TV on? Write her up. Having
everything in one spot will help you stay streamlined, organized and
efficient!
